W...Hanna, I'm so glad you enjoyed the post :).

When it comes to learning how to write, I have always found that writing advice is not worth half so much as diligence in reading, thinking about what you've read, and then attempting to copy what you've read in your own work. Put another, why learn from James Scott Bell and Robert McKee--helpful as they undoubtedly can be--when you could be learning from Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, or William Shakespeare? Of the small amount of writing advice I've read, I disagree with the majority, and I find that a large proportion of the remainder is either repetition of what I've already learned from the greats, or ephemeral literary trends, some of which are already falling out of style, being presented as The Only Way To Write. A small, a very small proportion of the remainder is actually worth reading, and I do sample writing advice from time to time in order to see if there's anything interesting out there, but overall, I'd highly recommend you study your craft through studying the classics.Suzannahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05123886143178225919noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-939665043379892755.post-58128463248370189572015-03-27T13:51:25.461-07:002015-03-27T13:51:25.461-07:00Loved the interview, Suzannah! You definitely sound like an astute authoress. :-) I was sort of surprised to hear you say that you don't believe anyone should spend too much time reading up on the craft of writing. May I ask why?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
